SEASON 4 WAS FILLED WITH AN ECLECTIC VARIETY OF GUESTS: This season, we tackled topics such as medical inflation with Robert Hartwig, the importance of having a mentor with Andrew Shockney, what the day of an EMS professional looks like with James Holmes, getting employees home safe for the holidays with our very own RAMP Team, how FCE Balancing Testing can have a positive impact on claims with Josh Schuette, treating chronic pain with Dr. Hanscom, and how proper reserving is critical with Julie Greer. The goal of every season is to bring in knowledgeable guests who think differently and have a passion for what they do.
THERE IS A LOT OF WORK BEHIND THE SCENES: Everyone who works on ADJUSTED has a full-time job within the WR Berkley Company. Greg Hamlin, Jacob Holmes, Matt Murphy, Natalie Gaines, and Natalie Dangles come from Berkley Industrial Comp, Matthew Yehling is from MEC, and Michael Gilmartin is from Key Risk. The podcast isn’t anyone’s “day job,” but it is a passion project we all feel strongly about. Greg Hamlin is the lead host and has to do many things before the podcast recordings. Greg first has to find guests that will agree to be on the show, and he has to come up with an outline of good questions he wants to ask. The podcast is not scripted but is conversational, so the outline is a loose format of items to ask each guest. Jacob Holmes is our editor, and he spends about 4-6 hours a week editing one recording. Natalie Dangles is the blogger, and that can take roughly 4 hours for each episode to extract information that will convey what the episode is about in written form. The podcasts are all done with much love because of wanting to make a difference in the Workers’ Compensation Community.
EVERY GUEST IS DIFFERENT; YOU MUST THINK ON YOUR FEET: Some guests are very engaging and can speak at great length. This is a great thing, but it can be hard to get to the next question if they delve too deep. Having a co-host can make it easier because they can help put the conversation back on track when it veers off-topic. When hosting an episode, one of the most challenging things is when a guest only provides yes or no answers and doesn’t provide more details on a subject. This can occur because the guest is nervous or is an introvert. In those instances, the host and co-host will have to speak more to keep the episode going and extract meaningful information. Some guests are very energetic, and some are very powerful yet vulnerable. We are very thankful to all of our guests and have learned something from each of them. This makes the podcast so exciting; it is different each time!!
ADJUSTED WAS NOMINATED FOR BEST PODCAST BY BLOOM MAGAZINE! The BLOOM annual awards celebrate excellence in the Workers’ Compensation Industry. The BLOOM Awards are considered the “Academy Awards of the Workers’ Compensation World.” ADJUSTED has been nominated two years in a row, and it is such an honor.
STAY TUNED FOR SEASON 5! We want to thank all our listeners, guests, and everyone working on ADJUSTED. It has been an amazing two years since the podcast’s launch, and more great things will come in the upcoming season. As we end this season and begin the next one, as Greg Hamlin says, “Do Right, Think Differently, and Don’t Forget to Care.” We wish everyone a Happy Holidays and a Happy New Year!
